Mwangozomumu Primary School has now completed a renovation of three classrooms to provide a dry and warm environment for more than 100 pupils following a grant from event industry foundation Meeting Needs in 2023.
There were three classrooms at the school in Tanzania which leaked badly in the rainy season and were in poor condition throughout as a result. This dissuaded children from attending school. Meeting Needs funded a new watertight tin roof and interior decoration of the three classrooms with a donation of £5000.
The work was undertaken through Champion Chanzige, a charity founded by UK-based Philippa Jacobs. After completion of the renovation, a larger number of pupils of more than 100 were encouraged to enrol and attend the school due to the improved conditions.
Meeting Needs Vice Chair Lene Corgan said: “We have worked with Champion Chanzige for many years and it is a partnership that allows us to deliver real change for the children in the area and value for money for our supporters.”
